WeSMCO

Establishment

WeSMCO is an indigenous, non-governmental, non-profit making, humanitarian organization established in 1997 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by a group of dedicated individuals from diverse social, economic and religious backgrounds.

The organization is officially recognized and registered at the Ministry of Justice under the registration number 268. It is directly accountable to the Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency of Ethiopia.

WeSMCO works in collaboration with various governmental and non-governmental organizations and is active member of:

• Christian Relief and Development Association (CRDA)
• Consortium for Reproductive Health Association (CORHA)
• Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA)

It is administered by the Management Board which reports to the General Assembly - the governing body. The top management team led by the Director General controls the overall activities of the organization. The organization has enthusiastic staff executing its programs.

Vision

WeSMCO aspires to see Ethiopia as a prosperous, free, and peaceful country with decent living standard for the people.

Mission

Create conducive environment, in which the rights of destitute mothers and children are protected, respected and fulfilled.

Goal

Reduce poverty and ensure sustainable development in the country through integrated holistic approach.

Objectives

• Provision of formal and informal education for marginalized groups of communities;
• Provision of health services and facilities for disadvantaged communities;
• Improve the livelihood of poor families and youth through creating and securing job opportunities and sources of income;
• Empower women and children to overcome their problems and, protect and fulfill their rights;
• Building the capacities of communities to enable them to care and support PLWHA and OVC;
• Promote environmental protection and development;
• Promote good governance.

Project Areas of WeSMCO

• Arada sub-city in Addis Ababa City Government,
• Dibate and Bullen Woredas in Benishangul Gumuz Regional State and
• Kobo Woreda in Amhara National Regional State
